The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in implementing replay systems.
Replay technology are set to arrive at The Championships this year.
Players will gain the option to question particular rulings made by the official, following the protocol currently in operation at both the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.
The new system will be accessible on the main stadium and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles contests.
This step follows just a season following the All England Club rolled out electronic line calling, which terminated the longstanding role of line officials.
Reviewable Decisions
Players will not be permitted to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to ask for the umpire to re-examine other decisions, including:
- Whether a ball has double-bounced.
- If a shot touched an rival's racket or body on the way past.
- Potential interference at the conclusion of a point.
Notably, there is no cap on the number of challenges a player can request.
Practical Application
A recent example occurred in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.
Draper admitted it was a difficult call for the official, but thought his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a replay and determined the player was guilty of hindrance, granting the point to his opponent.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews are not exclusive to Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open this year.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have the system implemented at every one of its tournaments.
Other Changes
Another innovation at The Championships 2025 will be the introduction of graphical cues on displays to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This addresses situations where fans have occasionally been uncertain whether a ball was in or out.
Finally, with exactly a century of days remaining until the start of the tournament, organizers have further revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
